Pricing
Structure for a Custom Mural and Statement of Work
Through
my experience of painting murals in the past I have arrived at
a pricing structure which is fairly appropriate to my level of
expertise and which aims to offer my clients the best value for
their investment. Pricing my talent according to our mutual
needs also aims to keep us on target with our budget.
TIME
AND MATERIALS
As
an expert muralist, in accordance with your needs, before we settle
on the materials to be used, I always consult with the material
experts and/or the label on the can. When it comes to selecting
the appropriate preparation, paint, and finishing solutions for
the project requirements, research is a must. Time spent
reading the labels and consulting with the paint specialist is
an important investment I make, to guarantee an informative,
value-added investment of your time as we move the project forward
through the consultation phase..
Research:
The Design Phase
For
most mural projects, research is an integral part of the process
of building the design. I work with my clients to outline
a fair and accurate assessment of the time and material costs
involved.
Preparation:
The Design Phase
Once
the contract is signed after the preliminary sketches are approved,
the design phase begins. In the design phase, I translate
our ideas into a full detail, full-colour, scaled drawing for
the mural. If no restorative work including the use of a
primer is involved on the wall, the next step is to scale the
drawing to the wall using a variety of techniques. Before
the painting begins, the palette is prepared by mixing and matching
colours to the design. All surfaces are treated with protective
coverings.
Painting
As the mural goes through its transformation from the design to
the wall, the painting processes and techniques involved are orchestrated
together using dynamic physical execution appropriate to the visual
impact I am aiming to achieve. Once we determine the level
of detail and technical work involved in achieving the effect
we are after, I determine a price per square foot, which is based
on an average painting rate for the complexity of painting to
be done.
Finishing
For
projects requiring a protective sealer, the cost of clear-coating
is estimated by time and materials. This phase of completion
is an additional cost based on time and materials.
